#002 - Rhinoceros
Name: Rhinoceros
Location: The Yatarian Desert, the Altis Tundra and the savannah.
Lifespan: 35-45 years
Picture:
Miscellaneous Notes: As mentioned before, rhinos from different regions vary wildly.
Alti Rhinos are the rhinos that live in the tundras of the north. They migrate south to every year, marching through the Yatarian desert, all the way to the Eluvian wilds, where they gorge on the plants until they have eaten an entire year's worth of food, before marching all the way back, without ever eating while in the tundra. This march takes place in winter and takes some three months. However, due to having to fight other rhinos for their fair share of food, Alti rhinos have a reputation of being the weakest rhinos but also the most aggressive.
Yatarian Rhinos are the only domesticated rhinos. They are bulky and strong, meaning that they can carry a lot of weight. This is their main use by humans; the transport of goods. They can ride on and on, and carry huge weights. However, they're extremely slow and can be expensive to maintain. Since the mass-production of vehicles, rhinos have been used to traverse the desert less and less, though there is still some caravans that go through the desert with long lines of rhinos as is tradition. Also, they make for very handy backup when vehicles break, and have found a new home as maintenance and heavy cavalry in the military.
Southern Rhinos live in the savannah and are undoubtedly the strongest of the rhinos. Luckily, they are also the slowest; about the size of an elephant and extremely intimidating, they've became so used to not being attacked by anything or anyone that they've gradually devolved and lost the ability to run in exchange for even more weight, simply plodding forward at a leisurely pace. However, their horns are almost as strong as steel, and just as sharp. It also takes a lot to kill one, with entire hunting parties taking days to bring down just one.
