Thibudis is a country spread across many regions and ethnicities as well as climates, but split mainly into three. Each holds a major city within; the harsh, cold North bears the Alterian Mountain range and the country's capital, Aenias City.

The barren, arid climate of the Midlands bear the dated society of Yataris, which is almost obsolete by technology's ruling, but most denizens adhere to a strict, honour-bound code of conduct. The Yatarian desert lies just east from the city's fringe.

The temperate climates of the South give way to a vast expanse of savannah, a wide coastline, and the second-largest city in which a rebellion is being mounted; Sabrie. It's also home to the only mainland port, Port Victory.

In the Southeast lies a thin peninsula, named as such, home to two polar extremes directly adjacent to each other; Dawntown and Dusktown. The Peninsula holds around 200,000 people in all, around 100,000 in each of the towns. The thin, long strait which leads out onto the savannah and the near-ancient town of Ill Fortune is named appropriately as the Bloodwind Strait because of the gale-force winds and the exotic fauna which dwell there.

Finally, the Avelian sea stretches and fills the ocean around the mainland continent itself, and the Havens, an ultimate holiday resort, lie three days' travel southeast.

Languages and dialect are simple. All speak the same language, Thibudian. For all intents and purposes, this is English, although it's accented; Sabrian/Southern natives will most likely speak in a native Northern-American accent. Peninsula dwellers will speak with a regular English accent. Those who dwell in the harsh northern cold will generally speak in a Scottish accent, and Yatarians with slight middle-eastern accents despite their proficiency. Denizens of Aenias City will speak in formal British English, and those of Ryuhi in traditional Asian-accented Thibudian.

Informal or formal language depends on character background.

Those who dwell in the desert will undoubtedly be tanned, and those in the South also but to a lesser extent. The palest of individuals can be found in the North of Thibudis.

A map can be found here, courtesy of Sponge and my excellence at drawing mountains. Shut up they're awesome.

Technology consistently varies from place to place. Yataris is more or less obsolete when it comes to technological advances, but occasionally hires the odd piece of kit from Sabrie. Aenias City isn't too far behind in the Thibudian arms race, specialising in steam and gear-powered technology, but the rebels are the real leaders when it comes to tech.

The rebels designed the first steam-powered airship around fifty years ago, and Sabrie itself takes pride, first and foremost, in its weapons and technology development. Its main source of commerce is Port Victory, as, generally, no Aenian troops can advance past Sabrie to occupy it, and they have a steady trade agreement with the port, as well as its undying allegiance should the Empire ever choose to mount a full-frontal invasion.

The rebels have a full slew of masses of technology, including all sorts of unorthodox steam and diesel-powered equipment, weaponry, you name it; they specialise mainly in mechs, with their air fleet realistically being the Sky Pirates.

As for Aenias City, what they lack for in technological advances, they make up for in their application of it. Perhaps their most successful endeavour to date is the steam-powered animal, examples including the metallic steam horse, and the scout dog, used for tracking and disabling potential targets with a rather nasty cycling chain jaw.

Considering that Thibudis' main industry, after assassination and mercenary work, considering the state of affairs, is mining, it would only make sense that they have scores of research devoted to it. The fruits of these particular labours include the massively popular 'spider drill', which uses an automatic drilling and isolation system and functions as an independent machine, and is consistently hired out by Yatarian mining companies on a regular basis, and an arm-mounted laser drill used for shearing holes in rock and working on a more precise level.

As an additional note, in the dangerous world that Thibudis is, considering the nature of its fauna, and, indeed, some of the more human inhabitants, prosthetic limbs are commonplace - though, unfortunately, not neurological and other internal implants.

Thibudis is something of an odd place, meteorologically. Just miles south of a vast expanse of desert lies a thick forest, leading onto a jungle, which exits on way onto a plane. And just miles north, a cold, harsh tundra begins, leading up to Aenias City, Farokon, and eventually an obstacle - the great Silver Wall of the North, which none had ever passed due to its sheer strength and the climate - ice generally removes any semblance of grip.

The most temperamental of climates lies in Dawntown, Dusktown, Port Victory, Sabrie, and the Havens, all but the last lying below the Eulvian Wilds and Deepthorn Jungle. Sabrie, from where Prime Minister Elisa Castillo mounts a rebellion, is in the Southwest, and along a long Peninsula lies Dawntown and Dusktown, just beyond the ferocious, infamous Bloodwind Strait, renowned for the exotic fauna that inhabit it. In Dawntown is the prestigious Adonis Factories Headquarters, one of the highest-grossing weapons companies in the entire of Thibudis.

The Havens represent Thibudis itself on a microcosmic, scattered scale, each one of the four islands having a vastly different temperament.

Season in Thibudis follows the northern hemisphere, along with the month. At the end of every year, another will be tacked onto the IC year - this is why liquid time is in effect. Work on the date a thread was started on unless time progresses during it.

People say that two things flow through Thibudis as sources of economy; metal and blood. Mining and either mercenary, violent criminal or militant work are the two professions that take up a whopping seventy percent of the male population, and thirty of the female. Yataris seems to have rich ore and mineral deposits deep beneath the sweltering sands of its deserts, which is why when travelling through it, you'll undoubtedly see sea upon sea of mechanical 'spider drills', whirring and thrumming as they hiss deeper into the sand, carving through rock indiscriminately with a high-precision mining laser, operated miles away in the city.

Piracy and the slave trade play a prominent part in Thibudis' economy, as well. The slave trade itself isn't actually highlighted that much, as most of the people kidnapped are indigenous or down-on-their luck travellers. They're sold on and eventually washed and knocked so far down so many chains that it becomes, for lack of a better word, impossible to locate a slave unless it's completely by chance. Piracy? Piracy was a nationwide scourge a few years prior to the agreement that High Captain Schiwatas struck with Elisa Castillo before his untimely death - now it's simply named privateering, and the Uprising, in an attempt to mount its forces, has the largest fleet, legitimate or not, in the skies. Imperial ships are robbed on a day-to-day basis - and not just airships, either. From Port Victory, giant rebel-manned galleon ships strand crews on desert islands and loot the cargo from any passing ship bearing the ugly Imperial insignia.

As for culture, it should be noted that most societies are strictly honour-bound and very tight-knit, Farokon, Yataris, and Ryuhi especially. Dawntown, Dusktown, and the democratic Sabrie/Port Victory tend to have very bustling cities with an array of both open and closed-off people, whereas the majority of the Imperial populace are blissfully unaware of the fact that they live in a total dictatorship under the iron fist of the three Prophets working solely for their own agendas - conquest. Oppose their rule, and you might just make up in the dungeons of the Dominion, one of the largest and most labyrinthine complexes in all of Thibudis.

But beyond Yataris, Sabrie, and the Empire, there lies another organisation, one so shady that its name is only heard as an echo from walls too thin to be built. The Syndicate. Lead by six. Six Ascendants. They have a finger in every pie, and every member is self-sufficient, intelligent, and tactical as all hell... they're the ultimate crime bosses. Those men you've never heard of, sitting with three models and conversing with the Prime Minister? They're in the Syndicate. They control everything - and if you know about them, you'll quickly learn that there's no way to avoid or cripple them. Days, people, lives, and even cities come and go, but the Syndicate are forever. They are eternal and everlasting.

Please note that sexism is prevalent and hardly frowned-upon, even reminiscent of 19th-century England/America, mainly in the Midlands and the North. In the South, restrictions are far more lenient due to the projection that the Uprising and its net area is generally a democracy. Aenias City has never had a queen or female Prophet, similar for Yataris.

The Thibudian Sarin (written as TS, e.g 300TS) is the generally accepted currency of Thibudis (ic, of course). Some stores will accept jewellery, and some more unscrupulous characters deal in blood, or even humans themselves, but the majority of people buy and sell in one universal currency: the Sarin. Sarin comes in 2st (called a Sarinate) 5st, 20st, 30st, 50st, 1TS and 5TS coins, all of which are bronzed and gold. 100 Sarinates to a full Sarin. There are also 5TS, 10TS, 20TS, 50TS, 100TS, 200TS, and - rare as it is - 500TS notes. These notes are white with various tinges of colour dependent upon which they are, the most vivid and distinct at 500TS and the least vivid and distinct at 5.

The Sarin roughly equates to the British pound, because that way I can keep an absolute and complete bearing on it at any time. For simplicity's sake, we'll say that the constant exchange rate for you Americans is $1.50 to the Sarin. Simple, eh?

The Sarin is a fairly strong currency, and because no other countries exist, the cities simply duke it out economically by sabotaging one another's cargo and ships. There's no real currency crash, or economy crash anywhere; it's a time of war, and, thus, the people have began to think as if it were!

For starters, it's obvious that Thibudis is a MASSIVE landmass. So everyone needs some way of traversing it, correct?

Most people, especially in the South, own mounts. Most of the time, these are horses, but the further north you go, the more... unorthodox they seem to become. Some people ride giant, grotesque iguanas (who smell weird and spit a lot) whereas others take it upon themselves to charge around the desert aboard a rhinoceros for the sheer power and image of it all, despite the difficulties of taming them.

However, going from one end of the map to the other by horse isn't wise. Even without the wickedly horrific terrain, Thibudis itself is roughly two or three times the size of the United Kingdom, with vast expanses of uneven land. Unprepared, it would take weeks to scale even a few comparative inches on the map. So, thus, train lines have been built, and steam trains placed upon them! One from Sabrie to Port Victory, and another from the same city to Yataris, going deep beneath the forests and jungle. Another leads from Yataris up through the desert and beneath the Aenian Bridge, on a half-day train ride, before heading up into the city's Commerce District. A shuttle/elevator system also connects each level of Sabrie.

And if that isn't enough, why not hitch a ride on an airship? Sabrie's got a hell of a lot, and they're more than a damn common sight in the skies nowadays! The only way to get ahold of an airship in-game will be either via purchase of it, or by holding a canon position which means you can have one; head of a Sky Pirate ship, serving on an Imperial air vessel, etc etc. You can purchase one in the store catalogue for 30 points and upgrade it there.

Mechs/mechas (short for mechanical constructs, or just mechanisms) themselves, be they walkers, platforms, assault or otherwise, are also fairly common-place if often varying from the norm. Just about everyone can get ahold of a mech through building it themselves - but be careful. I don't want to see every other character strutting around with the newest Tyr model, blasting the shit out of Imperial convoys.

Some hover/assault/diesel bikes can be found dotted around, although these are more than likely only in Sabrie and a few prototypes in Aenias City. You can get your hands on these, although they'd be difficult to acquire - moreso than the mechs, so please keep this in mind.

Technical details further than this, also concerning weaponry and other items to help you get a better understanding, can be found in the many logs of the Tech Registry. The Bestiary itself will also help fill you in on the intricacies of Thibudis and who or what you may be living, unwittingly or not, with, in this weird and wonderful world...
